CLEAR LAKE — The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors has once again approved shutting down a road to a rural Clear Lake beach on the 4th of July.

Cedar Avenue north of County Road B-35, which leads to the Farmer’s Beach area on the lake’s south shore, will be closed that day.

County Engineer Brandon Billings says prior to the county closing off that road on Independence Day the last few years, residents in that area complained about people lighting fires along the shore, vandalism, excessive drinking and litter.  “It’s just to help. It’s a dead-end road by the lake that nothing good really happens out there during the 4th of July, and it’s just easier if it’s closed to keep people out of there.”

The supervisors last week unanimously approved the closure.
