MASON CITY — South Carolina US Senator and GOP presidential candidate Tim Scott made a campaign stop in Mason City last night.

Scott says it’s time for Americans to get back to a common sense approach to life.  “If you’re able bodied in America, you work. If you take out a loan, you pay it back. If you commit a violent crime, you go to jail. If God made you a man, you play sports against men. Common sense stuff right?”

Scott says the US is a nation in retreat under President Biden and it’s time for a change.  “This is a sequel, we’ve seen this movie before. Now it’s been about 50 years since we’ve seen the movie by the way. This is a movie from the 1970s starring Jimmy Carter as president. In 1980, Ronald Reagan introduced a new concept. We could turn this entire thing around by believing in the American people, not the US government.”

Scott says America’s work ethic needs to improve.  “We should put work requirements on all of our social benefits. If you can work, you gotta work. We should not support people who support themselves. Not only is it good for you, but it restores something in you when you maximize your potential. I think we as a nation must focus our attention on making sure that people who can do things for themselves, it actually happens. I want to recalibrate our entire system from education to workforce to welfare benefits, all designed around work.”

Scott also made stops Monday in Fort Dodge and Nevada and appeared over the weekend at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition’s fall fundraiser.
