Icy conditions cause bus, semi to collided in Cerro Gordo County

CLEAR LAKE — Icy conditions early Saturday morning are being blamed for a passenger bus versus semi accident along Interstate 35 in Cerro Gordo County.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department says they were called at about 2:35 Saturday morning to the 180 mile marker of the interstate where they discovered a Jefferson Lines passenger bus driven by 58-year-old Nancy Shadel of Holden Missouri and a semi driven by 37-year-old Jacob Hartgers of Newton had collided, with the semi being tipped over and blocking the roadway.

The Sheriff’s Department says due to the weather conditions, the bus was not able to avoid the semi. There were seven passengers along with the driver in the bus, with one passenger receiving minor injuries.
