IOWA CITY — Iowa is back in the AP Top 25 at #20. The Hawkeyes used a late touchdown to edge Illinois 15-13 on Saturday, as you heard on AM-1300 KGLO, and a season that has featured a rash of injuries and struggling offense will include the Hawks second trip to the Big Ten Championship game in three years.

That’s Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz. The Hawkeyes have overcome injuries to several key players to win a division championship.

Iowa takes a 9-2 record into a Black Friday game at Nebraska.

The Hawkeyes will play the winner of the game between #2 Ohio State and #3 Michigan in the championship game on December 2nd in Indianapolis.



AMES, Iowa (AP) — Quinn Ewers passed for 281 yards and two touchdowns and No. 7 Texas pulled away from Iowa State for a 26-16 victory. The win keeps the Longhorns alone atop the Big 12 standings and moves them closer to the conference championship game. Ewers completed 23 of 33 passes and C.J. Baxter rushed for 117 yards, helping Texas extend its winning streak to five after an Oct. 7 loss to Oklahoma. Rocco Becht threw for 323 yards and two touchdowns for Iowa State but the Cyclones netted only 9 yards rushing and averaged less than a half-yard per carry.



CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Cam Miller accounted for three touchdowns and Cole Payton scored on runs of 60 and 23 yards to help FCS No. 9 North Dakota State beat Northern Iowa 48-27. Miller threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Eli Green to open the scoring, ran for a 1-yard score to make it 14-3 at the end of the first quarter and hit RaJa Nelson for a 15-yard TD to make it 21-3 with 13:51 to play in the first half. Theo Day passed for 342 yards and two touchdowns with four interceptions — two by Oscar Benson — for Northern Iowa.




DES MOINES — Drake will visit North Dakota State in the opening round of the FCS playoffs. The Bulldogs secured a bid after scoring a late touchdown for a 13-9 win at Butler and watched the selection show on Sunday.

That’s Drake coach Todd Stepsis. It caps a remarkable turnaround for a team that opened the 2022 season with an 0-8 record and Stepsis credits his players for never wavering.

It’s Drake’s first trip to the FCS playoffs and Stepsis says the Bulldogs are excited by the opportunity to extend their season.

DENVER (AP) — Russell Wilson’s 15-yard touchdown throw to Courtland Sutton with 1:03 remaining propelled the Denver Broncos past the Minnesota Vikings 21-20. The Broncos ended the Vikings’ five-game winning streak that was the longest in the NFL. Now, Denver owns the league’s longest winning streak at our four games. The Broncos are 5-5 as they try to make a push to end their seven-year playoff drought. Joshua Dobbs ran for a TD and threw for a TD for the Vikings. Denver’s defense had three takeaways and forced Dobbs and the Vikings to go backwards on their final possession when a field goal could have won the game.




IOWA CITY — The 2nd-ranked Iowa women scored a program record 64 points in the opening half and beat Drake 113-90 on Sunday evening as the Hawkeyes bounced back from a loss to Kansas State.

That’s Iowa  coach Lisa Bluder. Caitlin Clark scored 35 points and Kate Martin added a career-high 25.

Next up for Iowa is a trip to the Gulf Coast Showcase this weekend near Fort Myers Florida where they will face Purdue-Fort Wayne on Friday evening.




AMES — The Iowa State men raced out to a 48-14 lead at halftime and cruised to a 92-37 win over Grambling State on Sunday. The Cyclones improve to 4-0.

That’s ISU coach T.J. Otzelberger who likes the way his team has been focused through the early part of the season.

Otzelberger says a big focus has been on guarding without fouling.

Tamin Lipsey led the Cyclones with 17 points and added nine assists.




GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands (AP) — Kevin Overton scored 22 points as Drake beat Oakland 85-77 Sunday in the opening game of the Cayman Classic tournament in the Cayman Islands.

Overton shot 8 for 15, including 5 for 10 from beyond the arc for the Bulldogs (3-0). Atin Wright scored 22 points while shooting 7 for 16 (3 for 7 from 3-point range) and 5 of 5 from the free throw line. Darnell Brodie finished 6 of 8 from the floor to finish with 14 points, while adding six rebounds.

The Golden Grizzlies (1-3) were led by Rocket Watts, who posted 23 points. Chris Conway added 12 points and six rebounds for Oakland. In addition, Trey Townsend finished with 11 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals.




TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Jose Placer scored 21 points as South Florida beat Northern Iowa 74-65 on Sunday night.

Placer shot 8 for 11 (3 for 5 from 3-point range) and 2 of 3 from the free throw line for the Bulls (2-1). Kobe Knox was 5 of 11 shooting (2 for 5 from 3-point range) to add 13 points. Corey Walker Jr. was 3 of 6 shooting and 3 of 4 from the free throw line to finish with nine points.

Jacob Hutson led the Panthers (1-2) in scoring, finishing with 14 points and six rebounds. Michael Duax added 11 points and seven rebounds for Northern Iowa. In addition, Tytan Anderson had 11 points.
