EVANSTON, ILLINOIS — The Iowa Hawkeyes held Northwestern to 64 yards of rushing in a 20-0 win as Iowa snapped a three game losing skid in the series. Defensive end Chauncey Golston.

It was Iowa’s second shutout in Big Ten play this season and their fourth in two years.

Tyrone Tracy opened the scoring with a 50 yard touchdown reception and the Hawkeyes also added 123 yards of rushing as they improved to 6-2.

Iowa has an off week this week and travels to Wisconsin on November 9th.

 

 

AMES — On a day Oklahoma and Texas lost Iowa State failed to take advantage in a 34-27 loss to Oklahoma State. The Cyclones fall to 5-3.

That’s Iowa State coach Matt Campbell. Brock Purdy threw interceptions on the Cyclones’ final three possessions, including a pick six in the fourth quarter that accounted for the final margin.

Iowa State is off this week and will travel to Oklahoma on November 9th.

 

 

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Will McElvain threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as Northern Iowa scored 29-unanswered points on its way to a 29-6 win over Missouri State on Saturday.

McElvain had 238 yards passing for the Panthers (5-3, 3-1 Missouri Valley Football Conference). Isaiah Weston had 157 yards and two touchdowns receiving. Matthew Cook kicked three field goals.

Cook booted a pair of field goals in the second quarter, from 49 and 22 yards, to give Northern Iowa a 6-0 lead. Later, Austin Evans recovered a Missouri State (1-6, 1-3) fumble six yards shy of the Bears end zone, leading to McElvain’s touchdown run two plays later. McElvain followed that with a 46-yard scoring throw to Weston for a 19-0 lead at halftime.

Cook’s 38-yard field goal and McElvain’s 70-yard touchdown pass to Weston late in the third quarter stretched it to 29-0 before the Bears finally scored on a 17-yard touchdown throw from Peyton Huslig to Antwan Woods.

Huslig had 153 yards passing for Missouri State.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Vikings backup safety Jayron Kearse has been arrested in Minneapolis on suspicion of driving while impaired and with a loaded gun. The Minnesota State Patrol says a trooper stopped Kearse just before 4 a.m. after seeing a Mercedes drive around a barricade onto a closed portion of Interstate 94. The patrol says his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit and he didn’t have a permit for the gun. The Vikings say the team is aware of Kearse’s arrest and gathering more information.

 

 

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Andrew Wiggins made four 3-pointers in the final six minutes, finishing with 25 points to propel the undefeated Minnesota Timberwolves to a 116-109 victory over the Miami Heat. Karl-Anthony Towns added 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Wolves, who are 3-0 to match the second-best start in this long-languishing franchise’s history.
