FORT DODGE — Mandy Willems became NIACC’s single-season three-point field goal leader on Wednesday night as the 5th-ranked Lady Trojans beat Iowa Central 74-63 in a game you heard on AM-1300 KGLO. Willems led the way with 29 points, going 7-of-16 from three-point range. The seven three-pointers now gives her 110 on the season, passing the previous all-time single season leader Jennifer Currier, who had 107 in the 1987-88 season. Jada Buford added 12 points for NIACC, as the Lady Trojans now improve to 18-5 overall and 9-1 in the conference heading into their matchup with 2nd-ranked Kirkwood on Saturday.

FORT DODGE — Quentin Hardict led four players in double figures with 27 points to lead the 12th-ranked NIACC men over Iowa Central 95-82, as you also heard on KGLO last night. Trey Simpson had 16, while Kyle Lang and Christian Kelly each had 14 off the bench as the Trojans improve to 8-1 in the conference and 18-3 overall. NIACC will host top-ranked Kirkwood on Saturday. You’ll hear both the men’s and women’s games on AM-1300 KGLO starting at 1 o’clock.

IOWA CITY — The 20th Iowa Hawkeyes are on the road tonight to visit Indiana. The Hawkeyes are 6-5 in the Big Ten after rolling to a win over fifth ranked Michigan last week. Iowa coach Fran McCaffery.

Indiana snapped a seven game losing skid with a win at Michigan State and McCaffery says the Hoosiers’ health has improved.

Junior forward Tyler Cook says the Hawkeyes need to continue to focus on defense.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Darrell Brown hit 5 of 6 from beyond the arc to scored 29 points as Bradley picked up a rare road victory at Northern Iowa, 79-71 in a Missouri Valley Conference battle Wednesday night.

Coming into the game the home team in the all-time series between the teams had won 40 of 57 games. Northern Iowa won the first meeting between the schools on the road, 65-47.

Isaiah Brown knocked down a 3 with 1:38 left in the game to pull Northern Iowa (10-14, 5-8) within three points, 70-67, but Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye and Brown each hit two free throws to turn away the threat.

Lautier-Ogunleye finished with 15 points and Elijah Childs added 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Bradley (12-12, 4-7). The Braves continued their hot shooting from distance, hitting 11 of 20 from behind the 3-point arc

AJ Green had 24 points and Will Lohaus added another 12 for Northern Iowa.

IOWA CITY — Iowa women’s coach Lisa Bluder says the number 10 worn by Megan Gustafson will be retired, eventually. The senior center is Iowa’s all time leading scorer and rebounder and set a new Big Ten record this week by being named the league’s player of the week for the 20th time in her career.

Bluder says the Iowa administration has told her the number will be retired someday.

Iowa hosts Michigan State tonight.

IOWA CITY — Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz says the way rosters are being constructed is rapidly changing. This is the second year of the early and late signing period and a record of more than 140 underclassmen have declared for the NFL Draft.

Ferentz has no issue with graduate transfers but says underclassmen transferring and playing right away is a form of free agency.

Iowa had four players leave early for the NFL. To round out their recruiting class the Hawkeyes added a graduate transfer punter and signed two players on defense.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Wild captain Mikko Koivu will miss the rest of the season after tearing a ligament and cartilage in his right knee. Koivu tore his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus, and is expected to have surgery Friday, the Wild announced Wednesday.
