MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Dee Gordon scored on one of Minnesota’s three errors in the 10th inning, helping the Seattle Mariners beat the Twins 9-6. Shed Long and Daniel Vogelbach homered for Seattle. The series wraps up this afternoon with the first pitch at 12:10, the pre-game at 11:30 on AM-1300 KGLO

 

 

MASON CITY — The Mason City High baseball team swept 4th-ranked Waukee at Roosevelt Field last night. Harrison Nagel went the distance, allowing six hits to pick up the win in the opener as the Mohawks took game one 8-1. Avery Mellman went 3-for-4 with a homer and two runs batted in, while Carter Thomas added three hits. Thomas came through in the nightcap with a two-out walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh for a 6-5 win. Derek Dalen picked up a complete-game win from the mound. Mason City is now 9-4 on the season and will travel Council Bluffs to face Pleasant Valley on Friday.

 

 

MASON CITY — Evan Paulus socked two homers and picked up the win on the mound as Newman beat Lake Mills 11-0 last night in Top of Iowa Conference baseball. Paulus hit three-run homers in the third and fourth innings

 

 

CLEAR LAKE — Chase Stuver drove in four runs as Clear Lake downed St. Edmond 10-0 in six innings in North Central Conference baseball last night at Lions Field. The Lions have won five straight and now improve to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference. Their game scheduled for later today at Cherokee has been cancelled. Clear Lake now road trips to Council Bluffs on Saturday to face St. Albert and LeMars.

CLEAR LAKE — Clear Lake jumped out to an early 3-1 lead then pushed across five runs in the fourth to down St. Edmond 9-2 at Lions Field last night in North Central Conference softball. Clear Lake is now 4-5 on the season and 2-3 in the conference. The Lions travel to Hampton-Dumont-CAL Friday night in a game you’ll hear on AM-1490 & 96.7-FM KRIB starting at about 7:30

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — Kia Nurse scored 26 points and Asia Durr added a career-high 20 to help the New York Liberty beat the Minnesota Lynx 75-69. Nurse had 11 of her points in the fourth quarter as the Liberty (2-4) held off a few Lynx rallies. Minnesota got to 61-58 before Nurse hit a 3-pointer as the Liberty scored 10 of the next 14 points to build a 71-62 lead.

 

 

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings will make former tight end Steve Jordan the 25th member of their Ring of Honor this season. The ceremony will be Oct. 24, at halftime of Minnesota’s game against Washington. Jordan, a seventh-round draft pick out of Brown who played all 13 of his NFL seasons with the Vikings from 1982-94, is third in franchise history with 498 receptions behind Cris Carter and Randy Moss. Jordan went to six straight Pro Bowls from 1986-91.
