MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Nelson Cruz had three hits for Minnesota, including the go-ahead, three-run, two-out double after Tampa Bay starter Charlie Morton left in the seventh inning to lead the Twins past the Rays 6-4. Taylor Rogers recorded the last four outs for his 10th save, and the Twins beat the Rays for the fifth straight time. Kevin Kiermaier, Tommy Pham and Willy Adames hit homers for the Rays, who are just 10-16 since beating the Twins 14-3 at home on May 30.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Twins outfielder Eddie Rosario has a sprained left ankle, an injury he suffered in the third inning of last night’s game. Rosario, who leads the Twins and is sixth in the American League with 20 home runs, produced his second hit of the night against Tampa Bay before stumbling in a wide turn around first base as he tried to hustle for a double. As Rosario tried to regain his balance, his left foot rolled in the dirt. Manager Rocco Baldelli says Rosario likely won’t need to go on the injured list.

MASON CITY — The Mason City High baseball team’s winning streak was snapped at six games last night as the Mohawks split a doubleheader with 4th-ranked Southeast Polk at Roosevelt Field. Mason City dropped the opener 6-1 as Southeast Polk scored two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to secure the win. The Mohawks picked up the nightcap, 4-1. Avery Mellman and Ben Pederson hit back to back homers in the sixth inning to give Mason City a 2-1 lead. Connor Dalen tripled later in that inning to extend the lead to 3-1, with Derek Dalen driving in Connor Dalen to make it 4-1. Connor Wiemann went six innings to pick up the win, with Harrison Nagel working the seventh to pick up the save. Mason City is now 17-8 and will host Ankeny tonight in a doubleheader that you’ll hear on KGLO starting at 5 o’clock.

CLEAR LAKE — Clear Lake topped Hampton-Dumont-CAL 4-2 in North Central Conference baseball last night in Clear Lake. AJ Stevenson had a two-run double in the third and was later pushed across the plate on a double by Andrew Formanek. Mac Adams picked up the win, striking out six in going the distance for the Lions. Clear lake improves to 9-10 overall and 5-2 in the conference, and will host Forest City tonight.

AMES — Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard says success is about people and not about money. The Cyclone athletic department is coming off a banner year in which ISU finished third in the Big 12 all-sports race by finishing behind Texas and Texas Tech. It was Iowa State’s best finish since the Big 12 was formed back in 1996. Pollard says the key is all the sports working together.

Pollard says it is an attitude that helps them overcome a lack of resources.

After back to back eight win seasons and two bowl games expectations are as high as they have been for several years for the Cyclone football team which opens the season at home against Northern Iowa on August 31st.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Lynx scoring leader Odyssey Sims was arrested this month on suspicion of drunken driving. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Sims was pulled over for speeding and an improper lane change upon exiting a stretch of interstate highway a few miles west of downtown Minneapolis about 1 a.m. on June 6. Sims registered a .20 blood-alcohol content. That is more than twice the legal limit in Minnesota. Sims scored 15 points for Minnesota in a game about 18 hours after the arrest.
