IOWA CITY — Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says the Hawkeyes will use their off week to get some needed rest. The Hawkeyes are 6-2 after a 20-0 win at Northwestern and this is their second bye week of the season.

The Hawkeyes return to action on November 9th at Wisconsin.

Ferentz says there is a lot to play for in the final month.

Big Ten officials on Monday set the kickoff time for the Iowa-Wisconsin game on November 9th for 3 o’clock. The pre-game will start at 1 o’clock on AM-1300 KGLO

AMES — Iowa State is off until a November 9th visit to Oklahoma. Brock Purdy threw interceptions on the final three drives of a 34-27 loss to Oklahoma State back on Saturday but coach Matt Campbell says he was most disappointed with the start of the game.

The defense gave up several big plays in the opening half.

Campbell says they will use the off week to focus on fundamentals.

Campbell says defensive end JaQuan Bailey will redshirt and return for his final season. Bailey underwent surgery after suffering a leg injury in ISU’s Big 12 opener at Baylor.

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — Jayron Kearse returned to the Minnesota Vikings following his weekend arrest on suspicion of driving while impaired and with a loaded gun and apologized to the team and fans. He says both deserve better. The fourth-year safety and special teams captain says he’s sorry for putting anybody in harm’s way and that he will “go through all the necessary steps” to improve himself.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Former Iowa State assistant coach Barney Cotton is progressing well after having a heart transplant in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. The operation was Oct. 22 at Nebraska Medical Center. The Cotton family says the surgery and recovery have gone as expected. Cotton was a Nebraska lineman from 1976-78 and a Cornhuskers assistant in 2003 and from 2008-14. He was hired by Iowa State as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach in 2004, being released as part of a coaching change after the 2006 season. He was an unpaid volunteer assistant coach at Ames High School in 2007 before heading back to Nebraska under Bo Pelini. Cotton had been on UNLV’s staff since 2015 and stepped away for health reasons in July.
