IOWA CITY — A struggling Iowa offense will be without its top receiver in Saturday’s game at Northwestern. Brandon Smith suffered an ankle injury in a win over Purdue and coach Kirk Ferentz says he could be sidelined for up to a month.

Smith has 33 receptions, including four touchdowns. He will be replaced by redshirt freshman Tyrone Tracy.

Ferentz says Smith’s absence won’t change the Iowa offense.

Iowa has converted on all 24 trips to the red zone. Ferentz says the problem is they are settling for too many field goals.

The Northwestern offense has struggled in a 1-5 start but Ferentz says the Wildcats remain a solid defensive team.

Kickoff in Evanston is scheduled for 11 o’clock on Saturday, with the pre-game starting at 9:00 on AM-1300 KGLO

AMES — Iowa State coach Matt Campbell says the Cyclone offense has grown up during a three game winning streak. The Cyclones are 5-2 and have averaged just over 40 points the last three games heading into a game against Oklahoma State.

Sophomore quarterback Brock Purdy leads an offense that has become one of the most prolific in the country.

Campbell says he would like to see more consistency out of the kicking game.

CEDAR FALLS — Northern Iowa coach Mark Farley says a demanding early schedule has helped the Panther offense mature. The 12th ranked Panthers hit on several big plays in a 42-27 win over South Dakota.
