Woman involved in semi-bicycle accident near Sheffield last week identified by authorities

SHEFFIELD — The name of the woman involved in a semi versus bicycle accident near Sheffield last week has been released.

The Iowa State Patrol says a semi operated by 62-year-old Dennis Gjerde of McCallsburg was northbound on US Highway 65 at about 3:40 AM on Monday October 28th when he struck a bicyclist who was also traveling northbound.

27-year-old Carrie Goodrich of Sheffield was initially transported to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City and was later taken to the Mayo Clinic hospitals in Rochester for treatment of what were described as life-threatening injuries. US Highway 65 was shut down for about three hours.

A “GoFundMe” page entitled “Help for Carrie Goodrich” has been established. Her sister, who organized the page, says that Goodrich “has made some miraculous recoveries”.
