MASON CITY – There’s a three-way tie atop the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference volleyball standings.

After Wednesday’s league matches, No. 20 NIACC, No. 11 Iowa Central and Northeast Community College all sit in first place with 5-1 marks.

NIACC handed Northeast Community College its first league loss Wednesday with a 3-0 victory. The Lady Trojans (21-6 overall) won 25-21, 25-18, 25-21.

No. 20 Kirkwood (3-3 in the league) gave the Tritons their first conference loss with a 3-2 victory in Cedar Rapids.

NIACC has league matches remaining at Ellsworth on Oct. 16, at home against Iowa Lakes on Oct. 23 and at Iowa Central on Oct. 30.

In Wednesday’s sweep of Northeast, sophomore Kennedy Meister collected 14 kills, 11 digs and three blocks. Freshman Becca Steffen had six kills, 24 assists, three ace serves and eight digs.

NIACC returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Iowa Central Triton Invitational.

 

 

 

IOWA CITY — The 17th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes hope the home field is an advantage when they host 10th ranked Penn State under the lights. The Hawkeyes are 4-1 after a 10-3 loss at Michigan. Senior corner Michael Ojemudia.

The Hawkeyes will be out to snap a five game losing skid in the series. Sophomore safety Jack Koerner.

Last year Penn State prevailed in Happy Valley 30-24, and two years ago, the fourth ranked Nittany Lions used a walk-off touchdown for a 23-21 win in Kinnick Stadium. Iowa running back Toren Young.

Kickoff on Saturday is scheduled for 6:30, with the pre-game starting at 4:30 on AM-1300 KGLO.

 

 

IOWA CITY — Iowa men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery says point guard Jordan Bohannon is still a couple of weeks from returning to practice. The senior three-year starter underwent off-season hip surgery and may take a redshirt year.

McCaffery says there is a chance Bohannon could play a few games before making a final decision.

If Bohannon can’t play more will be expected out of freshman Joe Toussaint from New York City.

Grad transfer Bakari Evelyn from Valparaiso will also add depth in the guard court.

Iowa will face Lindsey Wilson College in an exhibition game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Monday November 4th before opening up the season at home against Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville on Friday November 8th.
